Do You Already Know The Muffin Man? Yes, But That Doesn't Stop The NYT From Putting Him On Page One.

If that William Neuman page-one story today -- the one on the legal dispute over those nooks and crannies in Thomas's English muffins -- sounds familiar, that's because it is. The Case Of The Quirky Lawsuit has already appeared in, by our rough estimate, 27 million other places in the last two months. Among them: USA Today, ABC News, New York Daily News, The Stamford Advocate, and The Consumerist. Widespread coverage was due in part to multiple stories by the Associated Press, the wire service that distributes its work to thousands of news outlets around the world. Is this well-worn journalism what people are going to spring for when the NYT goes behind a pay wall? Don't think so.
